To protest his illegal imprisonment he went on hunger strike and won his freedom. His successful 66 day hunger strike in 2012 - the longest in Palestinian history at the time, inspired over 1600 other Palestinian prisoners to hunger strike. Since his release Sheikh Khader Adnan has been the voice of the Palestinian political prisoners, ceaselessly defending their rights at every opportunity and thus is a thorn in the side of the occupation.

Sheikh Khader Adnan is a father of 6 children. Youngest are triplets just 8 months old - Ali, Hamza and Mohammed; his other son is aged 2 - Abd-Al-Rahman. His two daughters are Maali - the eldest just 6 years old, and Besan 4 years old. Khader Adnan has a degree in Mathematics, and runs a bakery in the town of Arrabah near Jenin in the West Bank. On Tuesday (8th July 2014) he was returning home to share the Iftar meal with his family after the Ramadan fast when he was abducted at a temporary checkpoint the occupation had illegally set up near his home town. Since his abduction he is being held in limbo - he is denied a lawyer and his family are not allowed to see him. The occupation hasn't even told his family where he is being caged or what his condition is. The family thinks he is being held in Megiddo prison. Megiddo prison like many other Israeli dungeons is secured by the British security company G4S.

Last year Sheikh Khader Adnan addressed the crowds in London at Al Quds Day via a video message which was played at the rally outside the US Embassy. The video is available:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXT08j_IBQE

Before his abduction Sheikh Khader Adnan had again graciously agreed to address this years London Al Quds Day rally on 25th July via a video link. We pray for his swift release so that inshAllah he can still grace us with a message on Al Quds Day.

In the meantime his family have kindly sent us a message which will be read out at tomorrows protest for Palestinian political prisoners, outside G4S headquarters, where we will be demanding his immediate and unconditional release:

Date: Friday 11th July 2014, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Location: G4S HQ, 105 Victoria Street, London SW1E 6QT (Closest public transport: Victoria Tube/Rail station)
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1525494837679446/

For more details of Sheikh Khader Adnan's re-arrest please see:

http://samidoun.ca/2014/07/alert-khader-adnan-re-arrested-by-occupation-forces/

LIVE UPDATES DURING PROTEST

We will, inshAllah, be tweeting live (hash tags #FreeKhaderAdnan#ReleasePalPrisoners #StopG4S ) from the protest with live photos being uploaded to our twitter and facebook page.

Ramallah, June 10, 2014—Ahmad was 15 when he was arrested during a 3 am raid by Palestinian security forces at El Far’a refugee camp in September 2013. He was accused of throwing stones, burning tires and insulting members of the Palestinian security service, and was dragged from his house blindfolded and with his hands bound by a plastic cord.

As he was placed into a waiting jeep, one of the men arresting him lit a lighter under his wrists to remove the cord. “I was screaming in pain. But he just kept doing it,” said Ahmad, recounting his ordeal to Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCI-Palestine), a children's rights organization based in the West Bank.
Read more at
Mr Almanza said for the first time that the move would also include prison service contracts all over Israel."*

This follows last years announcement that due to "reputational dangers" to their business, mentioning the protests outside their London Headquarters, G4S would exit the contracts in the Occupied Palestinian Territories when they terminate in 2015. However, at the time they still maintained that they would continue their prison contracts in Israel.

We have held regular protests outside G4S HQ in London for nearly two years, since August 2012 when the Palestinian Prisoners Campaign was launched at Al Quds Day, with a protest at least every fortnight. Congratulations to all the dedicated activists who kept the pressure on G4S to finally force them to change their stated position and announce they will abandon all prison contracts in Israel.

Of course our campaign against G4S continues, this announcement on its own will not change anything other that ensure we go forward with extra vigour so that they follow-through on their promise. Our next protest will be next friday 13th June 2014 outside G4S HQ, the focus will be the Palestinian mass hunger strike against Israel's illegal practice of administrative detention where more than 2,000** Palestinians are caged every year without charge or trial for an indefinite period of time. This is another crime which G4S is inextricably complicit in, with 86% of administrative detainees caged in prisons they secure. Details for the protest will follow shortly.Norma Hashimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09234015918187634901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949536334572734684.post-88750766280776856222014-06-07T06:59:00.001-07:002014-06-07T06:59:40.455-07:00Gates Foundation sells stake in G4S

With Palestinian political prisoners now more than one month into an ongoing hunger strike, daily solidarity events and direct actions are being held across Palestine. The hunger strike began in April against Israel's continued use of Administrative Detention - a system of imprisonment without charge, trial or access to legal defence. A previous hunger strike in 2012 was ended after Israel agreed to limit its use of Administrative Detention, a false promise that never translated to action on the Occupation's part.

- See more at: http://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/middle-east/11792-salt-and-water#sthash.qbXFkXdv.dpuf

Salt and WaterNorma Hashimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09234015918187634901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949536334572734684.post-28245650861674915262014-06-01T06:08:00.001-07:002014-06-01T06:08:26.347-07:001,500 Palestinian detainees on hunger strike

RAMALLAH: The number of Palestinian detainees on hunger strike in Israeli jails reached 1,500 Sunday, a Palestinian NGO said.

"More non-administrative detainees have joined the hunger strike in solidarity with administrative detainees, bringing the total number of striking detainees to 1,500," the Prisoners' Club said in a statement.

Read more: http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Middle-East/2014/Jun-01/258417-1500-palestinian-detainees-on-hunger-strike-ngo.ashx#ixzz33OOglZ2x
(The Daily Star :: Lebanon News :: http://www.dailystar.com.lb)

Norma Hashimhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09234015918187634901noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7949536334572734684.post-73612512006207763052014-05-19T17:35:00.000-07:002014-05-19T17:35:15.540-07:00Palestinian inmates’ situation, desperate: AnalystInterview on Press TV with Paul Larudee of Free Palestine movement in Berkeley
Muayad, who is now 22, spent more than a year and a half in an Israeli prison.

On Monday, as representatives of their parties spoke in Gaza, veteran prisoners Marwan Barghouti, a Fatah PLC member, and Abbas al-Sayed, a senior Hamas leader, both recipients of multiple life sentences by Israeli military courts, announced they would join the strike in solidarity with administrative detainees, former Palestinian minister of prisoners' affairs Wasfi Qabha said.

Their participation is likely to spur their movements to greater support for the strike, as well as boosting the reconciliation bid, according to al-Wuhaidi.

"Because of the dispute between the factions before, even the issue of detainees was affected," he said. "Our efforts weren't at their maximum, and didn't meet the expectations of the prisoners."

Unity between factions, he thinks, will help them coordinate their efforts to support the prisoners, whether through the diplomacy and negotiations of Fatah or the armed resistance favoured by Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and others. "Reconciliation is necessary to pressure the Israelis by uniting our strategies," said al-Wuhaidi.
